NEW DELHI: With terrorists striking in three states, Delhi Police have alerted the support staff of all big markets to look for unclaimed bags around shops. The cops have also issued guidelines to shopkeepers on unclaimed bags and bombs and are taking help of vendors to keep an eye on shoppers.

The markets where these measures are being implemented include Sarojini Nagar, which was a target of the 2005 serial bomb blasts in the capital that killed over 60 people and left over 200 injured, Lajpat Nagar, Palika Bazaar and Paharganj, which is “a sensitive and high-risk place”.

The routine combing operations before Independence Day have begun at least a week early this time with police suspecting terrorists could hit Delhi during this time.

Over 3,000 additional policemen, apart from the already posted 60,000, and
paramilitary personnel are checking vehicles and keeping a close watch on markets and malls.
