NEW DELHI: A CRPF jawan was on Saturday shot dead here allegedly by his colleague who feared that the victim, who had seen him "stealing" some money, could divulge it to others.

Head Constable Phool Chand Yadav of the 82nd battalion of the force died on the spot after he was allegedly shot by fellow constable Rajvir in Mayur Vihar area while they were preparing to return from their official duty.

"The incident happened due to the fear of truth being divulged and getting embarrassed in public on part of Rajvir. Yadav reportedly had seen Rajvir stealing some money few days back," CRPF spokesperson Ajay Chaturvedi said.

Yadav had asked him to come out clean by surrendering the money or else he would report the incident to the Commandant. Fearing this, Rajvir shot Yadav from behind in a bathroom.

Constable Rajvir then fired upon himself and has been admitted to a city hospital, he said.

Both the paramilitary personnel were deployed on 'Kanwaria' duty. Rajvir has already been placed under preventive custody.
