Kolkata teen dancing sensation was discharged from hospital on Friday

BANAGLORE: Kolkata’s teen dancing sensation Shinjini Sengupta, who suffered a nervous breakdown after allegedly being rebuked by a reality show judge, has recovered.

Doctors at the city-based National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans), where the 16-year-old was undergoing treatment for a paralytic condition, declared her fit and discharged her last Friday.

Resident medical officer VL Satish told DNA, “Shinjini’s health has improved a lot. It was after much deliberation that she was declared fit enough to be discharged.”
Doctor Arun Taly, the physician attending to Shinjini, however, refused comment.

The teenager was brought to Nimhans on June 28 after she lost her ability to speak and move and slipped into coma. She underwent a series of clinical tests, including MRI and EEG that clinically determine one’s mental status, at the hospital and began showing signs of improvement in a couple of days.

Shinjini’s father Dilip’s allegation that the reality show was responsible for her nervous breakdown sparked a heated debate in the media, after which the ministry of information and broadcasting came down heavily on such shows.

The ministry even convened a discussion on revising the Cablenet Regulation Act.
Dilip alleged the negative comments of judge Ringoo of the reality show affected his introvert daughter. He, however, apologised to the production team and judges of the show later.
