RANCHI: BJP President Rajnath Singh categorically denied reports on Sunday of the NDA making overtures to woo JMM President Shibu Soren while asserting that the UPA would 'face defeat' when the Lok Sabha meets to take up the trust vote on July 22.

"I am hearing this from you (media). I don't know anything about it," Singh said when asked whether reports doing rounds that the BJP was trying to establish contacts with the JMM leadership were true.

Asked whether he would meet Soren if the latter wished, Singh said, "leave aside any leader, I will speak to any common man of the country. But I have come here on personal work."

A section of local media reported that the BJP could make political overtures to the JMM which has five MPs to derail the UPA at the Centre.

On the trust vote, Singh said, "I believe the UPA will face defeat in the trust vote...if any party can give a stable government it is the BJP-led alliance."

Attacking the UPA and left parties, Singh said the BJP had always maintained that the alliance between the Congress-led UPA and left parties was "unnatural and the withdrawal of support had to happen".

Singh accused the Congress and the Left parties of being hand-in-glove in diverting attention of people from the principal problem of price rise by triggering the present political situation.

"We cannot rule out the possibility of the two sides conniving to divert from the price rise issue," Singh said on the present political situation in New Delhi.

On another query whether the number games could lead to a possibility of horse trading, Singh said, "if at all it happens it will be from the ruling side and not from NDA, which is rock solid in its unity."
