Shimla records highest rainfall in June

The previous highest in the same month was 516.8 mm recorded in 1970, Met director Manmohan Singh said in a statement.

SHIMLA: With a vigorous monsoon over its skies for the past one month, the Himachal Pradesh capital has recorded the highest ever rainfall for June this year, the Met department said on Saturday.

Shimla has recorded 531.3 mm rainfall from June one to 28, it said. The previous highest in the same month was 516.8 mm recorded in 1970, Met director Manmohan Singh said in a statement.

The city on Saturday recorded 51.6 mm rainfall, he said.

Similarly, Dharamsala with 728.3 mm rainfall in the same period, also exceeded its previous highest of 635.8 mm rainfall in the month of June, he said.

The Met office has forecast moderate rainfall/thundershowers at many places during next 24 hours in Himachal Pradesh and warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
