India will not run the ICC by proxy, says Inderjit Singh Bindra who has been elevated to the position of principal adviser to the world cricket governing body.
The move has been seen by some as a way of avoiding the appearance of an Indian hegemony developing within the council, particularly with the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, (BCCI) Sharad Pawar, to assume the ICC chairmanship in two years.
However, Bindra insisted the new management team would work effectively and fairly. “My role will be more to do with conceptualizing, helping with the direction of the ICC,” Bindra told Sydney Morning Herald. “There will be clearly demarcated areas. I wish to maintain the sanctity of his office.”
