PUNE: After an embarrassing defeat by Mumbai on Sunday, Saurashtra coasted to a six-wicket victory with a bonus point over Baroda in the Ramakant Desai Trophy one-day tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana ground here on Monday.

Skipper Jaydev Shah and Sagar Jogiyani stitched a memorable 167-run partnership off 164 balls for the second wicket for the winning side.

Saurashtra, chasing a target of 242, lost opener Chirag Pathak (30) quite early in the ninth over. Sagar and Jaydev made it tough for the scorers by taking quick singles.

Jaydev played an aggressive innings to reach his half century in just 46 deliveries. And then he went on to complete his ton in 89 balls. Jaydev’s century included 12 hits to the fences and two sixes. Sagar was unlucky. He got run out after a mix-up with Cheteshwar Pujara. Sagar scored 80 runs in 101 balls. It was Sitanshu Kotak and Pratik Mehta’s partnership that completed the formalities for Saurashtra.

At one point of time, Baroda’s scorecard was reading 41 for five in just 10 overs. But, Ketan Panchal fought a lone battle. He scored 102 off 101 balls. His ton helped Baroda to a respectable total.
