MUMBAI: The state government has justified its stand restraining gangster Abu Salem’s production in courts, stating that it apprehends threat to Salem’s life from Dawood Ibrahim gang members.
An affidavit filed by Dattatraya Shinde DCP (Detection), submitted to the Bombay High Court on Tuesday, states, “There is a likelihood of disturbance of public order if Salem is allowed to be removed from prison.” Shinde also stated that Dawood has entrusted his brother Anees to eliminate Salem while he is on his way to court. If Salem is killed, his supporters will cause a law and order problem, the affidavit stated.
Another affidavit filed by RN Deshmukh, joint secretary (Home) says the country would suffer a setback if any untoward incident as Salem has been brought to India on a extradition treaty with Portugal.
