An Andheri restaurant is giving women the opportunity to pay what they think the meal was worth

MUMBAI: An Andheri restaurant has found a unique way to attract customers. It is offering its female clientele the option of drawing up their own bill, every Tuesday evening.

The restaurant, Frontier Kurries and Kebabs, claims to be the first in Mumbai to launch such an initiative. The restaurant's owners, Rahul Kanal and Shakeel Bhure, say the idea behind the concept is to attract women customers to their establishment.

"At our restaurant, every Tuesday evening is dedicated to women. Every woman, whether she is in the company of women or men, is entitled to analyse the quality of food, service, and ambience. She is expected to draw up a bill based on all these criteria and pay accordingly. Even if a woman makes a bill of Re1, for any number of people, we will accept the money, as it will be based on her analysis," said Kanal.

The concept, although new to Mumbai, is inspired by a restaurant in Hong Kong. Bhure, who visited the Hong Kong eatery was taken by the initiative and decided to start it in Mumbai too.

The reason for choosing Tuesday, to run the scheme, was based on the fact that Tuesday is normally a lean business day for the restaurant. "We hope that it will help business grow," said Bhure.

When asked is the restaurant runs the risk of losing money every Tuesday, Bhure was unfazed. He stated that even if women pay less than the actual rate, the restaurant won't lose money.

"The rates are decided after taking into consideration the preparation cost, electricity bill and publicity cost," said Bhure. "Though the women pay less, they will definitely discuss the quality of food and service with their friends and relatives. Such word-of-mouth publicity will help us grow."
