Says former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad as he lambastes PCB’s biasness towards ICL

MUMBAI: Former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for banning players from taking part in the ICL and wondered how the professional league differed from the ICC-christened Indian Premier League (IPL). The explosive batsman considered the two tournaments as wonderful platforms for emerging cricketers to boost their talent and hailed the IPL’s plan to induct players from the Indian U-19 team.

“Professional leagues like the IPL and the ICL are benefiting players from across the world and the tournaments are no less than county cricket. More than the money, it’s the experience of playing with international stars that will cater to the youngsters’ knowledge of the game,” he said.

According to the former Pakistan skipper, banning cricketers is like killing them and there is no sense in restricting players from participating in tournaments that are financially beneficial for cricketers. “How many players qualify to play international cricket. And those who do, don’t they have the right to think about their future and financial security?”

Miandad said he has spoken to the PCB to review their decision to ban players and lauded the idea to start a professional domestic tournament. He, however, disapproved the PCB’s biasness towards ICL and alleged that PCB must have some kind of interest in the cash-rich BCCI for demoting the rebel league.

“Both the tournaments are promoting cricket. How does it matter whether it is not recognised by the ICC or the BCCI? Both countries should not politicise cricket and the game should be allowed to flourish in its own way,” he added.
