SRINAGAR: This true story has all the masala of a Bollywood blockbuster. A 48-year-old woman along with her 15-year-old son and four paramours brutally murdered her husband, who was allegedly proving a hurdle in sustaining her illicit relationships and lavish lifestyle.

Head constable Madan Lal’s mutilated body was found on the railway tracks on February 2. The body was found nearly 12 hours after he went missing from his home in Swankha Morh village of Vijaypur. Initially, it was presumed to be an accident case, but investigations revealed a chilling story of deceit and murder.

Police have arrested five persons including the wife and son of the deceased besides three alleged lovers.

SSP, rural Jammu, Rajinder Gupta said Lal’s wife Shanoo Devi was having illicit relationships with four men and spent humungous amount of money over them.

“She had withdrawn around Rs11 lakh from the bank which she spent on her friends. She even purchased a mini-bus for one of the paramours,” said Gupta.

Lal was aware of Devi’s affairs and was very disturbed. “He was so perturbed that he was always taking refuge in alcohol. This was making his wife and children uncomfortable. The son Suraj Singh knew everything about his mother but still he supported her,” said Gupta. On February 1, Devi sent her son to call her four paramours to hatch a conspiracy to kill Lal.

“And when he came to take dinner that night, he was caught hold by four men who first strangled him and then took him to the railway tracks where they crushed his head by a van and threw it on the tracks to camouflage it as an accident,” he said.

However, police smelt a rat in the theory and questioned his wife who allegedly confessed to her crime. One of her lovers is still absconding. Lal’s 16-year-old daughter  was also questioned but she had no role in the murder. She will be the witness, said Gupta.
