Action taken against 11,416 people for drunken driving

MUMBAI: The city police has taken action against 11,416 people for drunken driving till December 2007, since the drive started on June 20, last year.

The police has taken action against 936 drivers till January 27 under charges of drunken driving, according to an official release here.

In 2007, around 2,623 people were awarded with simple imprisonment and the driving licences of as many as 2,797 people were suspended.

Last year, police took action against 109 people for rash and reckless driving, out of which 47 were given simple imprisonment and licences of 62 people were suspended, the release added.
