10 killed, 40 injured as hotel collapses in Ahmedabad

At least 10 people are killed and 40 injured seriously when a five storied building of a hotel near Kalupur railway station collapsed here on Sunday.

AHMEDABAD: At least 10 people are killed and 40 injured seriously when a five storied building of a hotel near Kalupur railway station collapsed here on Sunday.
  
According to Fire brigade, Shakunt, a five storied hotel opposite Kalupur railway station, collapsed like a house of cards at 0900 hrs on Sunday.
  
Still, more than 50 persons are feared to be buried under the debris.
  
The injured have been admitted to Civil Hospital, V S Hospital and Shardaben Hospital in the city.
  
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting of state disaster management group and has declared a compensation of Rs one lakh to next of the kin of the dead.
  
Home Minister Amit Shah and Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner I P Gautam rushed to the spot and are supervising the relief and rescue operations. State Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas has reached the city Civil Hospital to oversee medical help being extended to the victims.
  
More serious victims are being shifted to Civil hospital.
  
According to local residents, most of the victims are students who had come to Ahmedabad to appear for a railway recruitment board examination which was to be held on Sunday.
  
As the news of the mishap spread, senior officials of Ahmedabad corporation and some members of Gujarat Legislative Assembly rushed to the spot.
  
Relief and rescue work are on progress. Details about the victims are awaited.
