PERTH: Chris Rogers on Sunday was added as cover for injured opener Matthew Hayden in the 12-man Australian squad for the third Test against India starting here on January 16.

Rogers was expected to be called up after he scored a well-compiled 60 for ACT XI in the tour game against India.

"The National Selection Panel confirmed opening batsman Chris Rogers has been added to the squad of 12 for the third Test versus India as a 'shadow player' for Matthew Hayden. Rogers will train with the squad from tomorrow," a Cricket Australia statement said.

Australia team Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Hayden, who took part in the team training on Sunday would continue with the recovery programme on his hamstring and the team management would make a decision about his fitness and availability closer to game.

Hayden picked up the injury during the controversy-marred second Test in Sydney.
