KOLKATA: Four days after a Kolkata girl was apparently killed in a road mishap in Chicago, the authorities of Ohio's Bowling Green State University where she was studying contacted her parents assuring all possible assistance in sending the body back home.

Sweety Majumdar, 24, an alumnus of Kolkata's Presidency College who had gone to USA for her PhD in the Bowling Green State University, was killed in a road accident on Monday in Chicago where she had gone to celebrate the New Year with her Nepali flatmate Afsana and five Indian students.

She had gone to the US for higher studies almost five months back.

According to local reports, a university official called Sweety's parents, Bijoli and Pulin Majumdar Friday and officially informed about the incident.

The girl's family said her death occurred under mysterious circumstances as there was no information about how the accident took place or who took Sweety to the hospital.

"The body is expected to arrive in Kolkata on Sunday after finishing all paperwork there. We are trying our best so that the entire process can be facilitated through the external affairs ministry," local councillor Faiyaz Ahmed Khan said.
