CHANDIGARH: Hitting out at Congress for 'lowering the political debate' during the electioneering in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the BJP on Sunday said that the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi was facing a serious crisis of credibility.

"The biggest problem for the Congress is that the party is facing crisis of credibility," BJP national president Rajnath Singh told reporters here before heading for neaighbouring Himachal Pradesh to address three different election meetings in Mandi and Bilaspur districts of the hill state.

Accusing the Congress of being the only party that has lowered the political debate, Rajnath said that the BJP had accepted the Congress diatribe against it as a challenge.

Taking a dig at Sonia for describing BJP as a party "without direction and corrupt" at a political rally in Una in Himachal Pradesh yesterday, he said that BJP never commented such against its political opponents whereas the Congress was using derogatory language against other outfits.

"If the Congress levels any allegations against any individual than it is all right, but such serious accusations are not acceptable against a party," he said.

Condemning the utterances of Sonia against BJP, Rajnath said that "the entire country fought under the banner of Congress unitedly for the its independence."

"After independence Gandhi (father of nation Mahatama Gandhi) himself once said that the Congress must be disbanded now... when the Congress did not accept the Gandhi's remarks than how can this party level allegations against its political opponents," Rajnath questioned?

He charged Sonia with lacking in vision to take the country on the path of development and claimed that during the previous regime of the NDA the country became economic power globally.

"If Congress have any vision than it should control the hike in prices of essential commodities," he said while claiming that two years back the BJP had sought a white paper from the centre on its failure to control price hike," he said adding that the Congress led UPA never came out with a white paper as it was afraid of being exposed.

Asserting that the BJP was fighting the polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh on the plank of development, he said that the Congress was responsible for dividing the country on communal lines.

"For the past 60 years the Congress is responsible for creating sense of fear among Muslims of the country to get votes from them," he alleged.

Claiming that the BJP will win the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections with a comfortable majority, Rajnath said that "Congress is a party without agenda whereas development is the agenda of the BJP."
