Company points finger at builder collusion

MUMBAI: The premises of Micro Technologies (India) Ltd, a Navi Mumbai-based global security and life support solutions provider, have been sealed by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for non-possession of occupancy certificate.

The company, named among the 50 fastest-growing companies by Deloitte Touche and Tohmatsu last year, owns the building, and had started operating out of it in 2003 sans an occupation certificate.

Nisha Menon, Micro Tech’s spokesperson, told DNA Money the company was in the process of  securing the occupancy certificate, but this was delayed by the NMMC.

The company said the NMMC Commissioner had given it 3 weeks to complete the formalities for  obtaining the occupancy certificate.

All formalities except the NOC for fire and parking were completed in the period, it said.

This was because there is a status quo order from the high court, the company said.
Also, readying a car lift for parking takes 3-4 months and the 3 weeks was not enough.

The company, therefore, sought an extension from the NMMC commissioner, but immediately upon completion of 3 weeks, the premises were sealed, the company said.

Micro Technologies said it has been using only 10% of the total space in the building.

The sealing action, it said, is  a sequel to it terminating a contract with Haware Engineers and  Developers, a Navi Mumbai building contractor, for not completing the construction of its building in time.

Micro Technologies has tie-ups with companies such as Airtel, Ford India and Sony Ericsson and is rolling out its expansion plans outside the country.

The company has set up over 75 Micro Shoppe retail outlets in India offering security and life support products.

Girvan Institute of Technology, a technical institute promoted by US space agency NASA to facilitate the growth of high technology businesses, is investing $1 million for a 2% stake in the company’s subsidiary, Micro Secured Solutions.
