Vengsarkar offers to resign: Reports

KOLKATA: Chief Selector Dilip Vengsarkar has triggered yet another controversy, leaving the city in the middle of the second cricket Test amid reports that he has offered to resign.

There was no confirmation from the BCCI on this reports but Vengsarkar is believed to be upset over the alleged inadequate compensation for the ban on writing newspaper columns and the directions to the selection for the third Test over telephone.

Vengsarkar, who was scheduled to stay in the city on all the five days of the match, had a meeting with BCCI Chief Sharad Pawar last evening before returning to Mumbai.

Vengsarkar was reportedly feeling insulted over the Board's attitude towards the selectors and particularly towards him.

There were also reports that selectors were upset that the BCCI shifted the date of team selection from Tuesday to Wednesday with consulting with them.

The team for the third Test against Pakistan to be played at Bangalore and the first leg of tour of Australia was to be selected on Tuesday. Naming of the Test captain for the tour of Australia was also on the agenda.

Vengsarkar has been having a running battle with the Board on various issues and the BCCI had reacted strongly by threatening to slap a show cause on him if he continued to write syndicate columns. He decided to discontinue his columns following a meeting with Pawar a few days back.

The BCCI has been in collision course with selectors and have barred them from writing columns or talking to the media.

Even the press conference to announce team after selection meetings was scrapped.
