MUMBAI: Criticising the decision to set up four special courts to deal with the 1992-93 riot cases, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, in an editorial in 'Samana' said on Thursday, the Maharashtra government was trying to ‘appease’ the minorities.

An editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Samana', said the decision reflects the mindset of the Democratic Front government, which is to woo the minorities as they constitute a large chunk of vote bank.

This decision comes at a time when the possibility of mid-term poll is looming large in the country and so the Congress and the NCP want to woo the minorities.

The Bombay High Court had informed the state government recently that four judges have been nominated to deal with the riot cases.

The editorial said the High Court had set up the special court as a part of administrative decision at the request of the government.

But, the governments request to the High Court shows that it (government) is more concerned about the feelings of the minorities than the majority community.

The editorial said whether it is the issue of "taking out the ghost of Srikrishna Commission from the bottle" or setting up special courts to try the 1992-93 riot cases, the intention is clearly aimed at victimising the majority community, the editorial added.
