Maternity hospitals should be given permission to perform tubectomy on women when they come to deliver their second child. Consent should not be mandatory. Things have come to such a pass that such drastic measures have become imperative. People won't

Adoption procedures should be made simpler and less expensive. A lot of couples love to adopt babies, but dread the procedure. There are thousands of kids lying in adoption homes, waiting for a house they could call their own. If adoption laws are relaxed, several couples would take these children home.

Since India's womenfolk stay glued to the television, especially all K-serials, the government could compel Ektaa Kapoor to produce a soap to highlight the dangers of unrestricted population growth. It could be titled 'Kum Karo Population'. If she can convince millions of women to wear only those saris and jewellery that she shows on screen, Ekta can surely motivate women to stop at two children.

The government should grant incentives to people who have opted for permanent birth control measures. These could be by way of tax concessions, job and education quotas and discounts at government facilities. This way, couples would be more keen on going for permanent contraception.

The government must promote condoms aggressively. They must be distributed free at all stores, malls and petrol pumps. Rail and air tickets must come with complimentary condoms. Wine shops must hand out condoms to every customer. If we can provide easy, uninhibited access to contraception, birth rate will surely come down.
