NEW DELHI: The police recruitment scam in Uttar Pradesh is snowballing into a major controversy with the Samajwadi Party on Thursday demanding an apology from Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati for passing “denigrating” remarks against women constables.
Ramgopal Yadav, brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav and senior SP leader said: “Mayawati should immediately apologise and promise not to stoop so low in political vindictiveness as to have no qualms in denigrating women.”
Seeking the home ministry’s intervention, he said: “It is a serious matter. Some of the candidates are married and some will settle down soon. Reports of their alleged sexual exploitation are having serious repercussions on their lives,” he said.
Alleging that Mayawati “manipulated” senior police officers to write adverse reports against the sacked cops, he said: “Mayawati herself should be subjected to a narco test as it would reveal how she manipulated the police officers to write the report to malign Mulayam Singh Yadav.”
Slamming the BSP chief for the mass dismissal of police personnel, including suspension of 25 senior IPS officers and over 150 PPs officers for their alleged involvement in the recruitment scam, Yadav said the probe into the alleged sexual exploitation of women candidates during recruitment to various police services was humiliating.
“By levelling charges of sexual exploitation of female candidates, additional director-general of police Shailja Kant Misra (who probed the scam) created a humiliating situation for all the women candidates and also for all those who are in service,” he said.
“As for ADG Misra, he was acting like a puppet. In fact, the way he conducted himself, raises doubts about his sanity,” said the SP leader.
