Indian doctors held for manslaughter in UAE

DUBAI: Two Indian doctors, accused of manslaughter after a botched operation which led to the death of a patient in the UAE, have been ordered to pay a total of Rs 20 lakhs in compensation to the victim's family.

The local criminal court in the UAE found the chief surgeon to be largely liable for the error which led to the death of an Egyptian mosque imam from Khor Fakkan.

The doctor was fined Rs 18 lakh diya or blood money awarded to the victim's family. The other surgeon also an Indian, was fined the remaining Rs 2 lakh.

The Imam died, earlier this year, from complications arising from the surgery.
