Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to create a special fund for rehousing the Project Affected People (PAPs) in the city.
A proposal formulated by the Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak’s office will be tabled before Standing Committee on Wednesday,. It suggests that the capital earned from redevelopment of plots for housing the dishoused will be credited to the special fund.
Capital value is calculated based on the current value of the plot and its future usage, like residential or commercial.
Last year, the high court had ordered the corporation to utilise the capital value of development of Atria Mall at Worli for the allotment of shops to PAPs. The municipal corporation will initially transfer Rs40.60 crore received from Atria’s developers to the special fund. Another Rs39 crore deposited by the same developer in the court and Rs33 crore paid to the Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalpa Limited for the redevelopment work will also be added to the corpus.
