CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday adjourned till on Wednesday the hearing on the bail plea of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in two separate cases of murder and a rape case filed by the CBI against him.

Justice L N Mittal adjourned the case till Wednesday after listening the arguments for about an hour on Dera head's petition seeking anticipatory bail in the murder of Dera Manager Ranjit Singh and a scribe Ram Chander Chattarapati and sexual exploitation of his disciple.

However while adjourning the case, the judge observed "if he (Dera head) is free for the past five years, he can be a free man for another month".

While the defence argued that the Dera head had been "falsely implicated" in the three cases, the prosecution claimed that the Dera's counsel SK Garg Narwana was "making wrong statements" in the court.

"We have sufficient evidences with us where we can prove the Dera head's involvement in the cases. Besides, there are evidences where witnesses in these cases are being threatened by those owing allegiance with the sect," the CBI counsel Rajan Gupta told the jam packed court room here.

Earlier last week the three cases against the Dera chief were referred by Jutsice Surya Kant of the High Court to the chief justice Vijendra Jain on the ground that he could not take up the matters as he was Advocate General of Haryana when the cases came up for hearing in a court in 2003.

At one point of time during the course of arguments, the judge asked the defence counsel not to lose his cool and maintain a calm.
