JAMMU: The BJP on Monday demanded resignation of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for his alleged failure to resolve the water crisis in Jammu city.

"By feigning ignorance about water scarcity in Jammu city, the Chief Minister is only playing vote bank politics. He should resign and go back to Delhi," BJP's state unit president Ashok Khajuria told reporters here.

Khajuria said by stating that he was not aware of the water problem in Jammu, Azad showed that he was unaware about the problems being faced by the people of the city.

"It is shocking ...height of political bankruptcy and display of utter failure to manage the affairs of the state. He has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister," he said.

Khajuria said the apology tendered by Azad to the people of Jammu was not acceptable and the government should take immediate steps to improve the basic amenities like water and power supply in the city.

"How could the chief minister tender an apology on behalf of all political parties. BJP has never shared power in the state and has been playing an effective role of opposition," he said.

Khajuria said his party will launch a city-wide campaign against the government's alleged failure and would not allow it to function till the problems were redressed.

On the functioning of the government, he alleged that corruption and nepotism were rampant among the ministers.

Khajuria appealed to people of Jammu region to support its candidates in the next year's assembly elections in the state.
