JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir police has alerted its counterparts in other states about Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad floating 'sleeper cells' to clandestinely spread its terror network across the country.

Based on the data of 650 calls from 3 mobile handsets and 207 calls from a satellite phone owned by slain JeM militant and Ayodhya mastermind Kari Saifullah Akhtar, police found the outfit "set up the sleeper cells with plans to spread its tentacles in several states and J&K in particular".

"We are looking into all aspects to help our counterparts in other states launch operations to bust these cells and the Jaish network," Senior Superintendent of Police Parminder Singh told here.

Police stumbled upon a number of fake identity cards owned by the LeT divisional commander, photos, matrix sheets and other 'incriminating documents' that pointed to the outfit floating the dormant terror cells, Singh said.

"The slain militant was country coordinator for Jaish operations and in charge of planning and executing terror strikes," he said.

The official said police had already made hauls of arms and ammunition, satellite, cell phones and SIM cards and over Rs 6 lakh from sleeper cells in Poonch, Mendhar, Jammu and other parts of the country.

The photographs of an ex-soldier, his wife and daughter were also recovered during a raid on a hideout of Akhtar in Poonch district.

Besides, jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh seized from the house of government school teacher Maqsooda Khatoon when the August 11 encounter took place had been returned to her relatives, he said.

The house in Janipur was one of several the JeM top militant had changed in the past few months.

The security agencies have, however, been unable to track down Akhtar's 22-year-old "local wife codenamed Laila Kauser" as she has gone underground somewhere in the hills of Poonch.

They are currently interrogating Akhtar's right-hand man who has been discharged from GMC hospital where he was admitted with gunshot injuries following the Aug 11 gun battle.
