BANGALORE: After Orissa it is the tech city that has been shocked by the mass recovery of aborted foetuses. On August 5, more than 20 foetuses were found dumped in a yard meant for bio-medical waste in Bangalore.
According to the government hospital seven foetuses were sent for sex determination on Monday. “Five foetuses are male and two female. The report has been sent to the police,” said Dr PK Devdas, head of the department of forensic sciences in Victoria hospital.
Chairman of the state women’s commission (SWC) Pramila Nesargi has already said that the number of foetuses found was 21. “The police are trying to hush up the matter. The commission will be meeting the chief minister and deciding on the further course of action,” she said.
Skeletal remains of over 20 foetuses, packed in small plastic bags were found in a dump yard stuffed in gunny bags. Rag pickers in the area saw the bags and alerted the SWC.
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said the issue would be discussed in the assembly session on Tuesday.
According to SWC, a survey by a private agency revealed that at least 10,000 female foetuses were killed in 2006 in the city of Bangalore alone.
