Chargesheet filed against 13 policemen in fake encounter case

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat CID on Monday filed a chargesheet against 13 police officials, including DIG DG Vanzara, before the metropolitan court in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

The over 700-page charge-sheet was filed in a sealed envelope in the court of metropolitan magistrate KJ Upadhyay.

None of the accused were present in the court when the chargesheet was filed.

The Gujarat CID began probe into the Sohrabuddin encounter case at the behest of Supreme Court after the victim's brother filed an application accusing the Gujarat police of staging the encounter and terming him as a Lashker-e-Toiba terrorist.

In the course of investigation CID arrested Vanzara, who headed the Sohrabuddin operation and two other senior IPS officers including one from Rajasthan.

Some other lower-ranked officials of the Gujarat Anti- Terrorist Squad and Rajasthan special task force were also arrested subsequently.
