KANNUR: Accusing a section of the media for making 'concerted' efforts to tarnish image of the ruling Left Democratic Front government in Kerala, CPI-M central committee member E P Jayarajan on Saturday said the people would identify and defeat the forces behind such 'designs'.

"A section of the media in Kerala, by availing funds from abroad, are making conscious moves to tarnish the image of the CPI-M and the Left Front Government," he said, speaking at a function here.

"They need not have to be unduly concerned about party affairs," Jayarajan, also general manager of the party mouthpiece 'Deshbhimani' and who is in the thick of a controversy for allegedly receiving funds in the name of the daily, said.

Alleging that he was being targeted by a section of the media for reportedly receiving Rs two crore for the party organ from an inter-state lottery tycoon, Jayarajan said the CPI-M was capable enough to 'correct or punish' him if he was found guilty by the party in any manner.

A section of the media in Kerala was determined to target the party leadership and weaken the CPM organisational set up. Such moves would not be tolerated and would be defeated by the  people, he said.
