CHENNAI: Admitting that a few electoral malpractices in the co-operative polls had hurt him mentally, leading to him cancelling the polls, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said stray incidents had been blown of proportion in a bid to destroy friendly relations between DPA constituents in the state.

In a statement here, he said it was unfortunate that some of his friends had fallen prey to the 'fraudulent activities' of the DMK's enemies. "Some DMK men in certain districts contributed their mite to this state of affairs," he said

He said the DMK wanted 'real' co-operators to contest the polls and take over these bodies and run them in the true spirit of the co-operative movement.

The party did not want to politicise the co-operative polls, he said.

"Since a few incidents mentally hurt me, I ordered cancellation of the polls. The polls will be conducted soon after meeting leaders of legislature parties, he said.
