NEW DELHI: The tiff between the Delhi Government and the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) has come out in the open with the authorities writing a letter to the DUAC asking them to speed up clearance of the 2010 Commonwealth Games projects.

“We are deeply concerned over the lukewarm response of the Delhi Urban Arts Commission in clearing six projects of the Public Works Department. This will not only delay the projects unnecessarily but is also uncalled for,” said AK Walia, finance minister of Delhi. “The projects were prepared long back but the DUAC has been sitting on them projects,” he added.

The minister further said that some of the projects that are lagging behind were construction of four flyovers and two link roads in the national capital region that was being built to facilitate easy access in the capital.

Apart from the DUAC, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is also facing the heat from Delhi Government for it has also delayed four projects of the Commonwealth Games, an allegation made by the minister. Of the total 27 projects that are simultaneously going on for the games, ten have already been delayed.

“The delay in clearance of these projects would lead to cost escalation and non-commissioning of projects before the start of the games. We have started only 15 projects so far while the remaining are stuck in bureaucratic problems,” said Walia, adding that though the government officials have been running pillar to post to get clearance of these projects not much is coming off it.

“It is time that we all start functioning like one unit to complete the construction work on time,”
he said. Walia said  construction of hostels had been delayed because of lack of clearance by the DDA.
