NEW YORK/ABU DHABI: New York Film Academy (NYFA) will establish a world-class film school in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the promotion of cinema in the gulf region.

Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NYFA last week in New York, WAM news agency said.

The school will significantly contribute to building awareness and appreciation of the role films can play in promoting the heritage of the UAE and enhancing dialogue between cultures and civilizations, officials said.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, said that the film and acting school would open in January 2008 and would go a long way in promoting the cultural scenario in the region. It would invite and encourage talent from all around the region.
