DUBAI: Indian golfing star Jeev Milkha Singh has teamed up with 'golf in DUBAI' as their brand ambassador to promote the emirate's golfing facilities at global level.

The first Indian to break into the top-50 of world rankings following his sublime performances around the globe last year, Jeev joins heavyweights like Ernie Els, Mark O'Meara, Colin Montgomerie, Henrik Stenson, Thomas Bjorn, Lee Westwood and the revered Peter Cowen in an illustrious list of 'giD' ambassadors driving the brand 'Dubai' forward.

Son of the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh, Jeev jumped to a career-high 36th rank in the world from a poor 376th in just one season when he claimed four titles, including the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, to make up for six "frustrating" winless years.

At the Asian Tour award function held in Bangkok, he swept three prestigious awards, including the 'Special Achievement' for 2006 in addition to winning the 'Players' Player of the Year' and the 'Order of Merit'.

Jeev, at present ranked 57th in the world, is looking forward to having a long association with 'golf in DUBAI'.

"I have always considered Dubai as my second home. Whenever I have played in the Dubai Desert Classic, the reception from the galleries has always been overwhelming.

Mohamed Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of 'golf in DUBAI' -- the promoters and organisers of world-class events like the Dubai Desert Classic and the Dubai Ladies Masters said, "His contribution to Asian golf, no doubt, has been immense and he is also considered among the elite on the Japanese and European Tour," he added.
