A zari exporter, Fazlur Rehman, 32 on Sunday lodged a complaint against his nephew Shafiqul Mandal, 24, for stealing 2,500 metres of export quality zari material from his Aksha Arts godown at Gautam Nagar in Deonar.

cA neighbour informed Rehman about the incident when he found two pieces of the zari material lying on the road in front of the godown. “I was shocked to see the entire consignment stolen from the godown, also Mandal was missing and this raised doubt in my mind about him” Rehman told DNA.

He added, “Mandal must have planned the robbery as one of the two keys to open the godown is
with him.”

Abdul Mafuz Khan, manager of the zari unit said, “Mandal hails from Kolkatta and was working as a security guard. He was well-acquainted with the functions of export deals and must have learnt about the value of the
material in the market.”

The Deonar police has registered a case of robbery against Mandal and are on lookout for him.
