Court acquits Amit Jogi in murder case

RAIPUR: A special court here on Thursday acquitted former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit Jogi in Nationalist Congress Party treasurer Ramavtar Jaggi's murder case of 2003.

Special Judge B L Tidke however convicted 28 others of various charges and 19 of them were given life imprisonment for conspiracy and killing Jaggi.

Three Chhattisgarh policemen have been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment and directed to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.

Six others have given five years' rigorous imprisonment and directed to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.

Jaggi, NCP's state treasurer, was shot dead on June 4, 2003 in the heart of the city when he was going to the party office.

Jaggi's son Satish had lodged FIR against Ajit Jogi and his son Amit accusing them of plotting the murder.

The police had initially arrested five persons in the case but the state's BJP government after coming to power ordered a fresh probe which was subsequently handed over to CBI.

The CBI had arrested Amit on July one, 2005 from Delhi and a total of 29 people were made accused while filing its chargesheet on July 22, 2005.

The accused include a couple of Youth Congress leaders and three senior police officers.

A total of 154 witnesses, out of 203 witnesses of CBI, were examined in the court.
