Imran Khan, a sophisticated, vocal and blunt politician who gave all he could to cricket is now showing his commitment to the other sticky pie he has thrust his finger into — politics. The ‘King Khan’ has lately emerged as the most prominent political figure with a strong flouting reaction against the removal of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Imran Khan has pushed himself to the extent to link the present judicial crisis — independence of the judiciary — with his party’s title — Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (Movement for Justice) and motto — propagating the need for social justice that could remove all ills of the society.

Over the past 10 years, he says, he has been invited to be Prime Minister under Musharraf and to be Deputy Prime Minister by Nawaz Sharif. He refused on both occasions because he did not want to be tainted by corruption. Imran says he did not join politics for success. “I joined politics for struggle, to give people of Pakistan some hope, to give them an alternative to the feudal system”.

Imran says has everything in life and that he doesn’t really need to do politics, but he is doing it for the sake of his people. For Imran’s political career, the cloudy crisis has brought a silver lining of hope in the upcoming general elections since his decade-long political struggle has failed to established any strong vote bank for his party.

Imran’s popularity is undoubted in Pakistan yet, in the last elections Imran’s political party had only one seat.

It was much touted that the maiden seat he had managed to win was also because of Musharraf’s support, but Imran says it the “biggest mistake of my life because I put my trust in the lies of Musharraf, but as soon as I realised the truth, I made no bones about becoming an opponent instead of an ally.”
