Vasant Pitke, a senior Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Home Ministry, which is incidentally in-charge of the law and order, has been doing the rounds to the Gamdevi   police station every Saturday after his wife’s “mangalsutra” had been snatched by two bike-borne unidentified persons near Jyoti Studio (Nana Chowk).

Pitke has almost given up hopes of recovering the “mangalsutra”. “The loss of 38 gram gold to the couple was not just monetary, but sentimental,” he said.

An officer at Gamdevi station said, “We have identified one person, but haven’t recovered lost property.” Pitke said, “After filing the FIR, my wife gave details about the two individuals who were riding the motorbike. She was on her way out to buy vegetables when the two snatched her mangalsutra and disappeared. It was around 6.45 pm. It happened in the third week of March.”

“After filing the report, every week the police summoned me to the police chowky to brief the progress in the case. Everybody, who filed similar FIRs, had to report. After a few weeks follow-up, I found it time-consuming and gave up. I told the police give me a call when you finally recover the stolen good. Officer on duty in the Gamdevi police station said, “We have identified one person, but haven’t recovered lost property.”
