NEW DELHI: CBI constable T Subba Reddy was on Wednesday honoured with the "best detective" award for unearthing unaccounted cash of Rs 3.5 crore from public servants.

Reddy, who has been on deputation from Andhra Pradesh Police, was presented with the award by Minister of State for Personnel Suresh Pachuri at the Eighth D P Kohli Memorial Lecture, delivered by Magsaysay award winner Ela Bhatt here.

The award includes a citation and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

Reddy was selected for the prestigious award for being instrumental in registering disproportionate assets cases against five public servants and in the subsequent searches unaccounted cash of Rs 3.5 crore was seized.

During his seven year stint with CBI, the constable has unearthed an illegal passport processing racket apart from apprehending a proclaimed offender and four absconding suspects.

The award is given every year in the memory of D P Kohli, the first CBI director.
