Bollywood financier Bharat Shah receives threat calls

MUMBAI: Bollywoood film financier Bharat Shah has filed a complaint claiming he had received threatening calls from a Dubai-based person, police said on Tuesday.

Shah filed the complaint on Monday evening at south Mumbai's Malabar Hill police station and named some persons in it, they said.

A senior Crime Branch official ruled out the involvement of the underworld in the threats, saying the calls were believed to be the outcome of some property dispute.

Shah later said he received the calls from a man who identified himself only as Shetty and said he would "wipe out" the financier and his family.

"He (the caller) said he was speaking from Dubai and his name is Shetty. He said, 'Whether you know me or not, the whole world knows me,'" Shah told a TV channel.

Reports have suggested that the threats were related to some disputed property.

Shah quoted the caller as saying, "You should realise that I am calling as it is an urgent matter. And it will not be good for you if you do not stay out of the property or take
action regarding it.

"He said he would wipe out me and my whole family," Shah said.
