MUMBAI: A 20-year-old youth was stabbed while sleeping outside a railway station on Thursday morning, police said.

Raju Pappu Gupta, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was stabbed several times in the stomach, on his limbs and legs while sleeping at the Grant Road station and was hospitalised, police said.

Gupta was caught on Wednesday for not possessing a valid train ticket at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and was released by railway authorities late in the evening.

As soon as he made his exit from the station, he was approached by a man who promised him a "good job" and took him to the nearby Grant Road station where he was attacked, the police said.

The Railway police are yet to register a case.

The incident comes four days after the decomposed body of a youth in his early twenties was discovered on the railway tracks with stab wounds and stone injuries.

Following Thursday's discovery, the city police said it could be the handiwork of suspected serial killer Ravindra Kantrole's accomplices.
