MUMBAI: A superb all-round performance by Sridharan Sriram, who scored 53 runs and then returned figures of two for 22, helped Maharashtra prevail over Baroda by three runs in the last game of the Ramakant Desai Trophy. With this win, Maharashtra won the event by virtue of topping the West Zone leg of the Ranji Trophy one-dayers. Mumbai, with 13 points in their kitty, finished second and are the other team to make it to the next round. In another match, Saurashtra beat Gujarat by 6 runs.

At Patiala, a blistering century by Gautam Gambhir fashioned Delhi’s comprehensive 57-run win against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy North Zone one-day tournament here on Sunday. Gambhir made a stroke-filled 116 to lead a solid top order performance as Delhi, put in, posted 294 for 4 at the Dhruv Pandove stadium. Gambhir, who hit nine fours and a six, received able support from opening partner Aakash Chopra (52) and skipper Shikhar Dhawan (46). In reply, Haryana could muster only 237 for 7 with Amit Bhandari (2-18), Abhishek Sharma (3-40) and Abhinav Bali  (2-38) producing a tidy bowling performance for Delhi.

At Mohali, Punjab all-rounder Dinesh Mongia and opener Karan Goel hit impressive half centuries to thrash Services by nine wickets in the Ranji Trophy North Zone one-day cricket match at PCA stadium here on Sunday. Mongia smashed 70 and Goal scored 61 also stiching a fine partnership of 134 runs to reach the victory target of 151 in 33 overs after Services, electing to bat first were all out in 49.4 overs. Services got an early breakthrough as they sent opener Ravneet Ricky back to the pavilion on 5 but Punjab batsmen batted with ease at home ground. Earlier, Services started on a shaky note as Gagandeep Singh sent Imran Khan back to pavilion for his and the team score reading zero. Jasvir Singh scored 42 runs and opener Amit Pal Singh (31) and middle-order batsman Sarabjit Singh (30) also offered some resistance but no other batsman appeared to put up any fight.

At Indore, Railways registered a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Vidarbha in the Central Zone Ranji Trophy one-day cricket tournament here on Sunday. Electing to field first at the Emerald Heights International School Ground, Railways skittled Vidarbha for 104 in just 29.4 overs. Jai Prakash Yadav’s all-round performance ensured easy victory for his team, which also earned bonus points. Yadav first claimed four wickets and then scored 34 (4x5) not out. Railways romped home in just 14.3 overs.

Rajasthan on Sunday defeated hosts Madhya Pradesh by six wickets, thanks to a fine century by Rohit Sharma (102) in the Central Zone Ranji Trophy one-day game at the Usha Raje Cricket Ground at Indore. Electing to bat first Madhya Pradesh piled up a decent 294 for nine with Devendra Bundela 71 (4x6 6x3) and Shadab Khan (35 4x2) adding 57 runs for the fifth wicket partnership.
