Sanjay Dutt appears before special court

MUMBAI: Actor Sanjay Dutt, convicted for illegally possessing arms in the 1993 bomb blasts case, on Wednesday appeared before a special court after the one day extension granted to him to surrender ended.

Clad in a blue shirt and denim trousers, Dutt arrived at the TADA court here. The court will hear arguments of the prosecution on Dutt's application seeking benefit under the Probation of Offenders Act.

The Bollywood star was found guilty of possessing a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle. Under the Arms Act, Dutt faces punishment ranging from five to ten years.

Dutt was acquitted of charges under anti-terror act TADA.

The actor's lawyer VR Manohar had argued on Tuesday that he had acquired the weapons for self protection and not with the intention of committing any crime.
