Actor Katrina Kaif, who had sparked off a controversy when she wore a skirt for a film shoot at the Khwaja Moinudeen Chisti dargah in Ajmer last year, has apologized to the shrine management for ‘unwittingly hurting religious sentiments’. Kaif, co-star Rishi Kapoor and director Vipul Shah issued a public apology in leading newspapers on Monday.

The dargah management had served notices to the actors and the filmmaker in November last year, demanding a public apology for ‘Katrina Kaif’s inappropriate attire’ on the shrine premises.

“We had unwittingly hurt religious sentiments during the shoot at the dargah. So now, we are trying to make amends in every possible way,” Shah told DNA. Kaif, who plays an NRI searching for her Indian roots in Shah’s forthcoming film Namastey London, was wearing a knee-length skirt during the shoot. The actor came under criticism from a section of the dargah committee for ‘flashing skin’ at a religious monument.

Meanwhile, the more liberal section of the management insisted that the row over the skirt is unjustified since there is no prescribed dress code for devotees coming to pay their respects at the dargah.
