Re-fencing of the border will begin shortly

KOLKATA: In a bid to strengthen the security system at the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has decided to deploy a special squad in each sector of the border, said S Goel, Inspector General (South Bengal Frontier), BSF.

According to him, the squad would tackle any adverse situation, including terrorist attacks and infiltration. The re-fencing of the Indo-Bangaldesh border will also start shortly, he added.

"The existing barbed fencing is low in height. This is hindering BSF jawans from checking illegal infiltration. The new fencing would be much higher," Goel said.

The BSF jawans are planning high-voltage flood-lights in the border areas, Goel said. Though the jawans, posted in the border areas, are provided with high-power night-vision binoculars, they are not sufficient in monitoring the border outposts, he added. "In many cases, cross-border smugglers and illegal infiltraters take advantage of the darkness and bad weather and sneak into the Indian territory. Hence the arrangement," Goel said.
