MEERUT: Police on Monday claimed that the mystery surrounding the disappearance of a college lecturer here would be revealed shortly.

Meerut SSP Navneet Sikhera told reporters that the mystery surrounding disappearance of 29-year-old Meerut College lecturer Kavita Rani would be over "within a few hours".

The main suspect in the reported kidnap and murder, Ravindra Pradhan had on Sunday surrendered at the office of a news channel in Noida and was arrested by a police team.

He had claimed that the lecturer was "alive and held captive" by two Uttar Pradesh ministers.

A case under Sections 364 (abduction with intent to murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been  registered against several persons, according to the police.

Pradhan had claimed Kavita was "alive and is held captive somewhere". He told reporters "two UP ministers can reveal where she is" and denied any involvement in the disappearance of the temporary lecturer of Chaudhry Charan Singh University.

Meerut IG Jagmohan Yadav hinted that Kavita was no more, saying that "something untoward" has happended to her.

A number of investigating teams have been dispatched to different places for the recovery of Kavita and the vehicles used in the crime, he told reporters.

He, however, denied involvement of any Uttar Pradesh ministers in the case.

"Neither was there the name of Basic Education Minister Kiran Pal Singh in her diary, nor had she any talk with him," he said.

Even though she had talked to a minister Babulal, no direct link could be established with him, he added. Yadav said the main suspect Pradhan was arrested on the basis of call details of Kavita's mobile phone.

Some monetary transaction was the main motive behind the episode, he said in a reply to a question.
