NEW DELHI: President APJ Abdul Kalam rates Indian youth at seven on a scale of one to 10 on a global podium.

"I will say it is seven," the first citizen said replying to a question by a student at an interaction on Friday with participants of the finals of "Outlook Speakout-Inter School Debate."

"To reach 10, lot of hard work such as acquisition of knowledge, innovative thinking, debating potential, persistent hard work and, above all, a great aim to succeed are required," Kalam said.

Apparently concerned over corruption in several areas, he said, "I will revise my rating to ten when youths make India a corruption-free country, free of hatred and violence."

To another query, Kalam stressed on propagating schemes like water harvesting and wasteland development that he said had the potential to generate nearly 56 million direct employment avenues in government and the private sector.

"If we inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship through our curriculum at school and college levels supported by the venture capital funding, the centralised burden for employment generation will come down," the President said.

Putting faith on country's future citizens, he said, "If all youth of our country are ignited, the bright future of India will definitely be a reality."

He advocated providing basic facilities such as health and water to all and urged youths to "collectively find a solution for deficiencies."
