MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh convened an emergency meeting of top officials to discuss the situation in the wake of desecration of the bust of Meenatai, and violent protests by Shiv Sainiks across the state.
"The Chief Minister is currently in meeting with top state level officials who are briefing him on the situation in the state especially Mumbai," CM office sources said.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy said any kind of violence will be dealt with firmly.
Speaking to newsmen,
"We have posted bandobast, police vehicles are patrolling and fixed point units have been deployed,"
Commenting on the violent reactions in rest of the state, Director General of Police, P S Pasricha said he has alerted all police units in the state and has talked to police commissioners and Inspector Generals (IGs) personally asking them to keep a strict vigil.
