4 bookies held at Mira Road

The Mira Road Police have arrested four persons for allegedly accepting bets for the just concluded Test series between Sri Lanka and England.

THANE: The Mira Road police arrested four persons for allegedly accepting bets for the Sri Lanka-England Test series.

Jignesh Chandrakant Zaveri (43) and Ramesh Bhise (40) are from  Mira Road, while Kantilal Ghimji Shah (42) and Mayur Harendra Shukla (42) are from Malad.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided Jandig Estate from where the bookies were operating and arrested them late on Monday evening.

The police recovered a laptop, seven mobile phones and Rs 63,000 from them.

Charges under Sections 4 and 5 of the Bombay Gambling (Prevention) Act have been registered against the accused.
