NEW DELHI: A suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba member, a Pakistani national who was said to have masterminded several attacks in India, was gunned down in an encounter with police in Delhi late on Monday. Two of his accomplices were arrested.

Abu Hamza was killed in the encounter with Delhi police special cell sleuths near Gate No 1 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the busy South Delhi area at about 9.20pm.

Two hours before the encounter, police, acting on a tip-off, arrested two of his accomplices from Nizamuddin railway station and seized four kilos of RDX, four detonators, and Rs50,000 in cash.

Their interrogation revealed that Hamza was to meet them near the stadium to collect the ammunition and money. Police laid a trap near the stadium and asked Hamza to surrender when he turned up in a white Santro car (HR-29 L-4457).
