Army withdraws from Vadodara

The Army was on Monday night withdrawn from riot-affected areas of the city when the troops marched out of the remaining four localities ahead of schedule, following improvement in the situation there.

VADODARA: The Army was on Monday night withdrawn from riot-affected areas of the city when the troops marched out of the remaining four localities ahead of schedule, following improvement in the situation there.
    
The troops pulled out of the city, Wadi, Panigate and Navpura of the city at 8 pm. They had been withdrawn from
Raopura and Karelibagh, the other riot-hit areas, on Saturday morning.
 
City Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop said with no untoward incident being reported from the city in the last four days, he decided to withdraw the army.
    
Earlier, the army was to be withdrawn from 6 am on Tuesday but since there was no incident reported, he decided to withdraw it from Monday night.
    
The army had been deployed in the city on May 3 after burning of a youth in a car on Ajuua road in the city on the night of May 2, after violence and arson following demolition of a 200-year-old shrine by the city civic authorities.
